News and Notes on End-of-Life Care
by Janice Lynch Schuster

New York, NY - The Project On Death In America (PDIA) announces grants for scholars in the humanities, and for artists, writers, and performers. The grants encourage scholars and artists to "use their creative skills and insights to identify and convey meaning in facing illness, disability and death; and to evoke and deepen our understanding of the diverse metaphors that shape the experiences of suffering, dying and bereavement." Three different programs will be funded: one-year fellowships in the humanities, one-year fellowships in the arts, and two-week interdisciplinary institutes on the "Culture of Death in America." Applications and more information can be downloaded from PDIA's beautiful site www.soros.org/death.
