Promoting Excellence : Sustaining, Exporting & Elevating Grantee Innovations : Introduction

As a mechanism for fulfilling the important role of elevating the work of grantees to the national level, the NPO conducted telephone conference calls in Spring and Summer 2001 with each grantee to 1) discuss issues of sustainability and dissemination, and 2) develop action plans that guide these efforts.

Prior to conducting each call, NPO staff developed an in-house "Profile" for each grantee, drawing upon the wealth of information gleaned from site visits, grantee reports and surveys. The purpose of the Profile was to provide a concise snapshot of issues that affect the grantee's sustainability and generalizability, and to provide baseline information to non-grantee participants in the conference calls.

Although this booklet is a collection of our working documents and was not produced with the intention to professionally disseminate, we have been told that the rich content far outweighs the format in which it is provided. A profile of each grantee follows.
