Dr. Lorenz is a board certified internal medicine specialist who currently serves as a Clinical Instructor at UCLA, General Internal Medicine Physician and Palliative Care Consultant for the Department of Veterans Affairs of Greater Los Angeles, and as Staff Researcher at the RAND Corporation.
He completed his undergraduate work at Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina, and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Atlanta. He subsequently trained and taught at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego and the UCLA School of Medicine.
Dr. Lorenz got the idea for an education project involving "Wit" when he saw the play in February 2000. He and Dr. Rosenfeld subsequently developed the Wit Educational Initiative in which groups of actors around the US and Canada performed readings of the play for physicians in training.
Dr. Lorenz's areas of professional interest include chronic illness and end-of-life care, the organization and financing of hospice and palliative services, quality of life and spirituality.
